SUSTRANS - Sustainable City - Urban Transformation

Project Goal: The modernization of higher education in the field of urban planning in Ukraine through the introduction of innovative approaches to post-war reconstruction. The project aims to transform large industrial hubs, such as KryvyiRih, into environmentally, socially, and functionally sustainable environments in accordance with EU standards for carbon-neutral and smart development.
Key Areas and Deliverables:
- SUSTRANS Educational Module: Development and implementation of a 10-ECTS credit module based on 4–5 Massive Open Online Courses (mini-MOOCs).
- Thematic Priorities: Carbon neutrality, climate policy, green and blue infrastructure, “Smart City” systems, and social inclusion.
- Capacity Building: Training for KryvyiRih National University (KNU) faculty members on education in smart city development and sustainable urban planning.
- European Integration: Integrating forward-looking urban planning principles directly into Ukrainian curricula and strengthening academic mobility between Ukraine and Finland.
Through the creation of modern digital learning materials (videos, assignments, lectures) and active engagement with the construction industry, the project’s results will serve as a foundation for the practical application of sustainable solutions in the post-conflict reconstruction process. This collaboration directly supports the “green transformation” and reinforces the role of universities as drivers of innovative urban development.
